As the 2025 AMA Pro Motocross Championship pushes past the midway point, the competition is heating up in both the 450 and 250 classes. Here’s a breakdown of how the top riders are doing this season, who’s pulling away, and who’s emerging as a threat.

450 Class: Jett Lawrence in Full Control

Jett Lawrence

The defending champion has once again proven to be the rider to beat. With dominant performances nearly every weekend, Jett holds a strong lead in the championship standings. He’s been winning motos with authority and hasn’t shown many weaknesses, building a 60+ point gap over his closest rival.

Hunter Lawrence

Jett’s older brother, Hunter, is holding second place in the standings. While he’s been consistent with podium finishes, he hasn’t quite matched Jett’s pace. Still, Hunter’s racecraft and ability to capitalize on mistakes have kept him in the title conversation, even if just barely.

Eli Tomac

The veteran has returned with solid results and podiums, but hasn’t yet managed to break through for an overall win. He’s riding smart, and while not as aggressive as in past seasons, he’s still a top-five threat every weekend.

Aaron Plessinger

Unfortunately for fans of the popular KTM rider, Plessinger has been forced to sit out the final stretch of the season due to health issues. He started the year strong and was a regular podium contender, but his early exit means he’ll miss out on finishing near the top of the standings.

Jorge Prado

The Spanish MXGP champion continues to adjust to the American series. While his results were mixed at first, Prado has started to show real promise, leading laps and breaking into the top 10 overall. He could become a real podium threat by the end of the season.

250 Class: Deegan on a Mission

Haiden Deegan

Deegan has been the standout star of the 250 class this year. He came out swinging with back-to-back perfect weekends, winning all motos at the first two rounds, and has kept the red plate ever since. His aggressive style, confidence, and speed have made him the clear title favorite.

Jo Shimoda

Shimoda is currently Deegan’s closest challenger in the standings. He’s been fast and consistent, with multiple podium finishes, but hasn’t quite had the raw pace to match Deegan when it matters most. Still, his experience and late-season form could make things interesting.

Levi Kitchen

‘The Chef’ has put together a strong comeback in the 2025 Pro Motocross season after missing time earlier in the year with injuries suffered during Supercross. He’s steadily found his form outdoors, earning third overall at both Hangtown and Southwick with consistent top-five moto finishes. Now sitting fourth in the 250MX standings, Kitchen has re-established himself as a podium contender and remains well within reach of the riders ahead as the series enters its final stretch.

Garrett Marchbanks

Marchbanks has delivered a solid and consistent season in the 250 class, frequently finishing inside the top ten. While not yet breaking through for a podium, his speed and racecraft have kept him in the mix as a reliable threat on race day. Marchbanks has shown strong starts and good pace in the motos, and although he’s flying slightly under the radar compared to some of the bigger names, his steady performances have him holding a respectable position in the standings heading into the final stretch.

Other Notables

Riders like Drew Adam’s, Max Vohland, Ty Masterpool, and Michael Mosiman have all had solid moments throughout the season, with several top-10 finishes and flashes of top-five speed. The 250 field remains deep and unpredictable behind the top contenders.

Looking Ahead

With just a few rounds remaining, Jett Lawrence and Haiden Deegan are in control of their respective classes, but motocross is never predictable. Mechanical issues, crashes, and fatigue can change the championship landscape in an instant. Riders like Hunter Lawrence and Jo Shimoda are still within striking distance if the leaders falter.

As we head into the final rounds, the focus will be on whether Jett and Deegan can close the deal, or if someone steps up to spoil the party.
